This Sunday, the 11th January, is our first official litter pick of 2026 in Mile End Park. Why not come and join us? The weather forecast shows a chance of light rain and a moderate breeze, but we go out whatever the weather!

For the litter pick we’ll be meeting by the Art Pavilion at 10am, heading north up towards Bow Wharf (on the canalside) and then coming back down the Grove Road side.

Whilst en route as well as the litter there will be plenty of nature to enjoy. I saw and heard a Great Spotted Woodpecker yesterday in Chris’ Wood, parakeets, a robin, a pair of blue tits and lots of water fowl by the Art PAvilion pond. And by the Eco Pond a Kingfisher darted by. Using the brilliant Merlin Bird ID app has really helped me get more out of the dog walks in the park.

In Chris’ Wood, by the Art Pavilion, dozens of snowdrops have been flowering since before Christmas. They are starting to fade, but some are still to be seen in flower. And in the Climbing Wall Wood the bulbs we planted in previous years are starting to emerge. They look to be multiplying nicely.
